General information about Freest

Freest is a charming fishing village at the mouth of the Peene River that offers visitors everything you need for a holiday on the Baltic.

At the fishing port you can buy fresh fish directly from boats or watch the fishermen at work. From the harbor are boat trips and tours to the island Ruden or for the Greifswald Oie offered. Near the harbor, you can buy freshly smoked fish at the smokehouse Thurow.

The flat sandy beach is just 200 meters away from Blu Hus. Because there is almost no waves or currents and the water is slowly deep, the beach is ideally suited for children. The beginning of July at the beach, there is a well-attended beach volleyball tournament.

At the port there is an ice cream parlor, the restaurant "Hafentaverne" and "Freister Fischhus", where you can eat delicious fish sandwiches. On the main street is the restaurant "An der Waterkant", a very cozy inn whose specialty is the fish are. There is another fish restaurant in the hotel "Leuchtfeuer". In the village there is also a small grocery store with bakery and butcher and a bicycle rental.

One of the highlights is held every year on the first weekend in August - the Freest fishing festival. There are many delights, rides, stalls, music, dancing and a ferris wheel are offered on the beach.

The port of Freest runs from May to October several daily ferry to Kröslin and Peenemunde.
